"Khaleel's Fiery Spell & Rahul's Fluent Fifty: Day 3 of India A vs England Lions
Day 3 Drama: Khaleel's Fiery Spell and Rahul's Continued Class Turn the Tide for India A!
Northampton, England – What a turning point Day 3 proved to be in the 2nd Unofficial Test between India A and England Lions! From a seemingly comfortable position, England Lions crumbled under a devastating spell by India A's left-arm pacer, Khaleel Ahmed, before KL Rahul continued his dream return to red-ball cricket and Abhimanyu Easwaran found crucial form. The match is now firmly in India A's favour, setting up a fascinating final day.
Morning Mayhem: Khaleel Ahmed's Unplayable Burst
England Lions resumed their innings on 192/3, looking to build on their strong Day 2 performance. However, #FierySpell Khaleel Ahmed had other ideas. Unleashing a masterclass of seam and swing bowling, he ripped through the Lions' middle order. His sensational spell saw him claim a four-wicket haul (4/70), including the key wickets of Jordan Cox (45), James Rew, and George Hill in quick succession. This game-changing burst reduced England Lions from 219/3 to a precarious 243/8, exposing their batting frailties against quality pace.
England Lions tail showed some resilience, with Josh Tongue (36*) and Eddie Jack (16) frustrating India A with a vital 48-run last-wicket partnership. This late stand meant England Lions were eventually bowled out for 327, trailing India A's first innings total by a slender 21 runs. This highlights a potential concern for India A: the number of extras conceded (47 in the innings), including 21 no-balls.
India A's Second Innings: Rahul's Consistency, Easwaran's Redemption
Starting their second innings with a crucial 21-run lead, India A had an early wobble as Yashasvi Jaiswal's struggles continued. He fell cheaply for just 5, raising selection questions for the upcoming Test series.
However, the seasoned KL Rahul once again demonstrated his class. Following his first-innings century, he notched up a fluent 51 runs off 64 balls, showcasing his adaptability and impeccable timing. He looked set for another big score before mistiming a hook shot.
Crucially, #CaptainsKnock Abhimanyu Easwaran stepped up after a first-innings duck. He played a gritty and composed innings, anchoring the partnership with Rahul and scoring a vital 80 runs off 92 balls. His knock was a testament to his mental fortitude and will provide a much-needed confidence boost. Chris Woakes, however, persisted and managed to dismiss both Rahul and Easwaran late in the day.
As often happens in English conditions, bad light once again brought an early end to play. At stumps on Day 3, India A were 163/4, extending their overall lead to 184 runs. Dhruv Jurel (6*) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1*) were at the crease.
What Does Day 4 Hold?
India A are now in a commanding position. They will look to score quickly on Day 4 to build a substantial lead (ideally above 300) and then unleash their bowlers to push for a victory. England Lions, meanwhile, will need something truly extraordinary to turn the match around.
Your Thoughts?
- **Who was the star performer of Day 3 for you? Khaleel Ahmed, KL Rahul, or Abhimanyu Easwaran?
