India Whitewashed twiced In One Year Is GG Resign As a Head Coach ?

*Gambhir’s Test Record*:

Since taking over as head coach in mid‑2024, Gautam Gambhir has overseen 18‑19 Test matches and managed only seven victories – a win‑percentage of roughly 36‑37 %. That makes him the worst‑performing Indian Test coach in the modern era, with just two draws in the mix and nine defeats .

*Home‑Series Disasters*:

The most striking sign of the downturn is the back‑to‑back home whitewashes. India were swept 3‑0 by New Zealand in 2024 – their first home series loss in 12 years – and then suffered a 2‑0 defeat to South Africa, the first time the Proteas have won a Test in India in 15 years. In eight home Tests under Gambhir, India have lost four, a stark reversal for a side that used to be virtually unbeatable at home .

*World Test Championship Slide*:

Those failures have knocked India out of the WTC race for the first time, dropping them below Pakistan in the points table and ending a streak of reaching the final in the previous two cycles.

*Is this the lowest stage?

The numbers and the context do point to a historic low. Never before in the 21st century has India lost two consecutive home series by such margins, nor has a coach presided over a win‑rate below 40 % in Tests. The combination of a 36 % win‑rate, multiple whitewashes against top‑tier opposition, and the failure to reach the WTC final all suggest that, yes, we are witnessing one of the lowest points in Indian Test cricket history under Gambhir’s leadership .

*What’s next?***

The BCCI is already hinting at a change – KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant are being floated as potential captains, and there’s chatter about a coaching overhaul. Whether a new captain or fresh coaching ideas can reverse the slide remains to be seen, but the current picture is undeniably grim.
