Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli arrived in Ranchi on Thursday and immediately hit the nets for an intense, high‑energy session that was beamed across social media.  The two veterans were seen swapping balls with the younger lot – Rohit polishing his classic front‑foot drives while Kohli worked on his trademark straight‑bat shots, both taking plenty of singles and a few big hits to get the feel of the pitch ahead of the first ODI on 30 Nov.

The practice was a full‑team affair.  Alongside the “RO‑KO” duo, Tilak Varma spent a good chunk of time in the bowling crease, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana worked on pace, line and length, and the rest of the squad rotated through batting, spin‑batting and catching drills.  Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel highlighted the quick turn‑around from red‑ball to white‑ball cricket and stressed that the focus is on “playing good cricket” and giving the youngsters game‑time against a quality South African batting line‑up .

Coming off a 2‑0 Test whitewash at home – a painful 408‑run defeat in Guwahati followed by another loss – the squad is using the ODI window to reset.  The loss has clearly stung, but the mood in the camp is upbeat: the veterans are leading by example, the net sessions are buzzing with intensity, and the coaching staff is using the series to fine‑tune combinations, work on power‑hitting, death‑over bowling and fielding drills.  In short, the team is shaping up as a more cohesive unit, with Rohit and Kohli’s energetic practice setting the tone for a fresh start in the ODI leg.
